Unit 2 Staying healthy
Looking at the effects of over-eating, making informed choices about diet. Growing up, emotions, childhood experiences, personal hygiene and personal safety.

Unit 3 Being with other people
Friends, peer group pressure, different customs, the consequences of racism and bullying, conflict between siblings.
Unit 4 Living in the community
Topical issues (children of war), understanding the experiences of other people, empathy etc. Understanding democracy and the institutions that support it. Social justice. Money and charity.

Unit 5 Protecting the environment
Recycling and packaging, conservation and endangered species, sustainability – taking responsibility for other living things.

Unit 1 Knowing me
Personal strengths and weaknesses. ‘Emotional Literacy’ – expressing their views on issues affecting themselves and society. Making decisions and choices.
Unit 2 Staying healthy
Understanding how to make informed decisions about food groups and their importance. Awareness of ingredients. Dealing with death and loss as part of the growing up process. The health risks of smoking.

Unit 3 Being with other people
Appreciating the value of friendships. Peer group pressure. Multicultural understanding. Bullying. Resolving conflict and recognising and dealing with friendship problems. Understanding the value of honesty.
Unit 4 Living in the community
The needs of different community groups. ‘Political Literacy’ – exploring collective decision making. Topical and cultural issues and stereotypes.

Unit 5 Protecting the environment
Stimulating enthusiasm for recycling. Understanding that all living things have needs. Realising that the introduction of new species can have seriousimplications on the balance of nature.
